Introduction:
Solus Linux, renowned for its user-friendly interface and exceptional performance, can be optimized to meet the demands of professional audio tasks. By following a few straightforward configuration steps, you can transform Solus Linux into a powerful platform for pro audio production. In this article, we will guide you through the process of configuring Solus Linux to unleash its full potential for pro audio use.
Step 1: Supercharging Audio Performance with Limits Configuration and Granting Audio Group Privileges
To maximize audio processing capabilities, we'll start by editing the limits.conf file. Open a terminal and execute the following command to open limits.conf using the nano text editor:
sudo nano /etc/security/limits.conf
Within the file, add the following lines at the end:
@audio - rtprio 95
@audio - memlock unlimited@audio - nice 10
To ensure your user has the necessary privileges for pro audio tasks, execute the following command:
sudo usermod -a -G audio $USER
This command adds your user to the audio group, granting access to audio-related resources.
Step 2: Transitioning to Pipewire and Disabling PulseAudio
To further enhance the audio experience, we'll install and configure pipewire. Execute the following command in the terminal:
sudo eopkg install pipewire pipewire-jack pipewire-alsa wireplumber
The command installs the nessesary packages to make the transition to Pipewire. These tools provide advanced audio routing, control options.
Now, execute the following commands:
systemctl --user disable pulseaudio pulseaudio.socket
systemctl --user enable pipewiresystemctl --user enable pipewire-pulsesystemctl --user enable wireplumberrebootpactl info
The first command disables PulseAudio and enables Pipewire, ensuring a seamless transition to the superior audio server. The folowing three enable the Pipewire. After rebooting, execute the "pactl info" command to verify that Pipewire is running successfully.
Step 3: Utilizing QPWGraph for Advanced Patch Bay Control
To manage audio connections effectively, install QPWGraph:
sudo eopkg install qpwgraph
QPWGraph offers a comprehensive graphical interface to configure and control the audio patch bay, allowing you to route audio between different applications and hardware devices with ease.
Step 4: Exploring Advanced Mixer Configurations with QasTools
For dedicated mixer configurations, install QasTools:
sudo eopkg install qastools
